Grace’s Story

I recently had the incredible honor of sitting down with an American survivor of human trafficking to hear and share her story.

Our paths crossed in the most common of ways, and never did I anticipate when we met that she had been through the pain and trauma of human trafficking. As friends, we sat down. I watched as she gathered her strength, took a deep breath, and began sharing her story.

I journeyed with her as she shared about enduring abuse as a child, rebellion as a teenager, falling prey to false promises from what seemed like a trusted friend, and the inevitable deceit and coercion of forced prostitution.

Her story doesn’t end there. It includes the miraculous and the redemptive which now defines her as a survivor, not a victim. Her story sheds light on the pervasive issue of human trafficking IN the United States. Go figure. Trafficking exists here, and her story leaves no room for doubt.

In my work with The A21 Campaign, this has been one of the most rewarding stories I’ve been privileged to share. Click here to read *Grace’s story.
